U.S. Congress groks XML. [via Scripting News] Examples:

Currently it’s just a proof of concept. I sincerely hope this catches on and it (or something like it) becomes the new standard. Documents that will outlive all known presentation formats must be stored in XML. Or SGML. Or some other open format that separates content from presentation. There aren’t many things produced today that will be of interest in 100 years, but laws and resolutions are certainly one of them. Please don’t lock them up in MS Word.
