Virus costs skyrocket. The cost of coping with the Code Red computer worms that were unleashed on the Internet in July and August has reached about $2.6 billion. Windows is expensive. (Then again, Linux isn’t immune. Nor Apple. But we don’t see headlines like “$2.6 billion damage” due to Apple’s bundled software.)

Kudos to Microsoft’s PR team: the article talks about 5 viruses and worms — all Windows-specific, all direct results of Microsoft’s business decisions to increase market share at the expense of everything including security — without once mentioning the word “Microsoft”.

Update: the fine minds at Slashdot have noticed this too. They also point to Vmyths.com to dispel the projections of monetary damage quoted in the article.
