Michael Barrish: What is a good life? What we are left with, after 2,400 years, are three competing theoretical approaches, identified by Derek Parfit in Reasons and Persons as Hedonism, Desire-Fulfillment, and Objective List. What follows is a brief explanation of each, stripped of nuance and accompanied by photos of Anna Kournikova.
Dean Allen: Drivers wanted.
On the worth of Tom Selleck:
f8dy2: right after we got here, we went to a baseball game
f8dy2: the durham bulls
malachj: yeah, I’ve been to a couple of those games
malachj: we went on abby’s 1st birthday
malachj: tom selleck was there
f8dy2: really?
f8dy2: wow
malachj: yeah he was in a play or something nearby
f8dy2: i guess that answers the “where are they now” question…
malachj: we got his autograph on a baseball
f8dy2: wow
f8dy2: someday, that’ll be worth the price of a used baseball on ebay
malachj: yep
CityDesk shitstorm
Masukomi: The next big issue with CityDesk is it’s avoidance of XML. [via Scripting News] I’m not saying that XML is the solution to the worlds problems, … but it is currently the best solution we have for interapplication communication.
Michael Pryor: XML sucks! Saying we avoid XML is like saying we avoid plain text.
Joel Spolsky: How to create an RSS feed in CityDesk.
OK, so they can jam your content in XML templates. However, considering that CityDesk’s entire reason for being is “ease of use”, I’m surprised that something as basic as an RSS feed is so difficult. Apparently the templating language is flexible enough to create RSS feeds and publish using other XML templates, but I would expect this to simply be automatic.
