The story thus far:

• March 7: I innocently note that “y’all” is slipping into my vocabulary.
• March 7: Daniel calls me on my usage.
• March 8: I reply, citing sources for both sides.

And now, round 2:

• March 9: Keith corrects me, and claims it should really be “ya’ll”.
• March 9: Justin also corrects me, but differently.
• March 9: Shelley agrees with Justin.
• March 9: Sam just sympathizes with my Southern adolescence. Apparently Sam lives within driving distance; perhaps he and I should get together and discuss this in person. Not this week, though; I’ll be at the University of Virginia teaching Mac OS X again.

As I said before, there is stunning lack of consensus on the issue. But now that it’s made the DayPop Top 40, I’m sure the larger community will chime in with civil, informed opinions, and we can all come to a reasoned conclusion. Just like we did with CSS.
