The Register: Would you pay $5 to rescue Mandrake? Claiming a short-term cash crunch, Linux distributor Mandrake is asking individual users to join a ‘club’ for $5 per month and up, and business users to join one for $2,500 per year and up.
Think of it as a pledge drive, like PBS or your local independent radio station. Does anyone have a local independent radio station anymore? We had one in the Philadelphia area a few years back; my boss insisted on listening to it constantly in his car, even during pledge drive week. Now that’s devotion.
