Intentionally broken CDs wreak havoc

Cory Doctorow: Celine Dion broke my Mac. Copy-prevention features on the new Celine Dion album cause Very Bad Things(tm) to happen when inserted into a new Mac. (Side note: MacFixit has the original story, but I won’t link to them because their archives are password-protected, which sucks.) The unconfirmed rumor is that the CD may cause hardware damage in some cases, due to the intentional corruption of the disc’s session data. Hard to know who to feel sorriest for here: the music industry for the inevitable lawsuit, Apple for (possibly) making buggy hardware, or the fans who have to admit to tech support that they actually bought a Celine Dion album. Accolades all around!
