Download AdAware 5.7. [via MetaFilter: New AdAware (Free) Out] If you don’t know what AdAware is, I guarantee that you need it. It finds and optionally removes spyware. (Learn more about spyware.) These days, P2P file-sharing applications are the biggest culprit for installing spyware, and most spyware is intentionally programmed not to uninstall when you uninstall the P2P application it came with. Result: spyware continues to build up, reporting on your every move, stealing system resources, and making your Windows system even more unstable than it was to begin with.
AdAware is one of the 7 ways to protect your home PC. I use all 7. Why don’t you? (Note: “because I don’t use Windows” is a valid answer; it is, in fact, the best answer. Unfortunately, some of us are stuck on Windows temporarily for our day jobs.)
