(12:47 AM) I gave up on trying to install Gentoo Linux. Despite the help of several very smart people, I can not get PCMCIA and DHCP working at the same time. So I went with something one notch up on the spectrum, and a heck of a lot more polished: Debian Linux, specifically Debian 3.0, which is almost ready
. But not quite, apparently. I’m currently stuck in the post-install phase, where you’re supposed to answer a few quick questions (timezone, etc.) and get on with things, but the installer is looping endlessly. It asks a few questions, then proceeds to loop back and ask them again. Sigh. And now it’s too late to debug it, and I have to get back to real work in the morning, so that’s it for Linux for the time being. Some weekends are more satisfying than others.
(10:27 PM) Worked around it. I am now a happy user of Debian 3.0. apt-get rocks.
