You should not always attend weddings, however. You may have received an invitation, but if you have reason to believe that your inclusion on the guest list caused a fight between the bride and the groom (say you slept with one of them recently), you should graciously decline.
This was actually one of the rules that we both independently stipulated when creating our guest list: no former boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, lovers, flings, friends-with-benefits, whatever. If we’ve seen you naked, find your own damn party.
