In the late spring of 2002, Joe Gregorio, Sam Ruby, and I met for lunch one day, and we defined a club, the RTP Bloggers Club
, that excluded many well-intentioned hard-working bloggers. Now we no longer have the power to do that, because the hype is over, and the money that was funding it is gone. We have opened the club up to the world, embraced bloggers of every tool and platform. Oh, we got both kinds: country and western. Radio and Movable Type. And Roller. And homegrown systems. And even the occasional (gasp whisper whisper) non-blogger.
We did it all again today, and it was fantastic.
Would you like to join us? We do still exclude based on geography, but only because we lost funding (see above) and have been unable to buy that fancy wireless teleconferencing system we’ve always wanted. If you live in the Triangle (and by Triangle
, I mean the distorted geographic triangle defined by Raleigh, Apex, Cary, Durham, and Chapel Hill, NC) and would like to join the RTP Bloggers Club at our next lunch, send me an email, and when the time comes, I’ll give you the super-secret URL of our state-of-the-art online scheduling system. It’s written in Python, and it is, of course, open source.
