Bill Kearney: What’s so bad about RSS 1.0? Contrary to what certain people would have you believe, the RSS-1.0 format isn’t some horridly complicated format. What is does have wrong with it it’s documentation. It is quite ambiguous in a few places and just plain wrong in a few others. That said, it’s got a lot of cool stuff going for it.
The most interesting thing about it beyond the technical aspects is that it’s a community based effort. It’s not a single vendor dictating to you.
