nntp//rss is a Free Software (GPL-licensed) Java-based program that allows you to read RSS feeds through a Usenet newsreader. Jason Brome sent me this email announcing the release of version 0.3 (reprinted here with permission):
Just wanted to give you an update on my open source RSS aggregator for NNTP clients project, nntp//rss. Version 0.3 has just been released, featuring a number of new pieces of functionality. One of those is a ‘Parse at all cost’ parser, inspired by your XML.com article and follow up discussions on your website. I’d received feedback from a number of users who enjoyed using nntp//rss, but were disappointed that it could not read all of the feeds – specifically those that were not well formed XML. I think this experience ratifies the fact that a pro-active approach to informing publishers about broken feeds is OK, but at the end of the day, if your newsreader is the limiting factor in which feeds you can and can’t read, then you’d probably been inclined to look elsewhere!
