Joe Gregorio: New Atom API Implementation Release. Thanks to all the people who gave feedback on the first release, especially Ken Coar and Simon Willison. In response to their feedback, Joe and I have revised our prototype of the Atom API to more gracefully integrate with existing HTTP authentication infrastructure.

Only the authentication scheme has changed; the rest of the Atom API remains the same for now. See Joe’s post for the (small) list of changes to the authentication scheme, and the rationale behind them.

The new prototype is live now, in the same place as the old prototype. The changes are not backward compatible, so anyone who wrote code against the old authentication scheme will need to update their code. We do not anticipate any further backwardly incompatible changes, but until Atom is finalized we don’t guarantee it either.

Updated client code and server code are available.
