- Listening to: Bajofondo Tango Club
- Reading: Beyond Fear
- Writing: ApacheCon presentation
- Praying for: Rush Limbaugh. Boy, never thought I’d hear myself say that.
When the red red robin goes bob bob bobbing along, along…
God, it’ll be so good to be finished with all this.

Well, I’d be praying as well if a) I weren’t an atheist and b) I didn’t think he kinda had it coming.

now that is funny in an ironic and twisted kind of way.

People like Rush and O’Reilly have only one mission: to slander, discredit, and lie to either get ratings or push their propoganda.I’m an atheist as well, and frankly, if I weren’t I’d be hard pressed to pray for this man.
Also, after his ESPN fiasco I think he’s just looking for some sympathy. I’ve never seen anything he does done for a noble purpose. Mark, I completely understand your position on addiction, but I just can’t feel for a man like this.

He’s the monster and you’re the one who can’t feel any compassion for his situation? Keep telling yourself that.

I don’t necessarily care for Limbaugh’s commentary, but I thought his statement about the matter (that Mark linked to) was admirable.
Comment by aharden — Monday, October 13, 2003 @ 2:56 pm
Did you like his previous statement on the matter?
“Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. … And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up.”
Hardliner, convict thyself.

Mark … wow! How grace-driven can one get? And agree or disagree with Mr.Limbaugh … anyone who knows someone who’s gone through the pain of prescription painkillers knows prayers are needed.
I have a friend who is no wimp to pain, former navy seal … now a federal agent … who also suffered a back injury … then painkillers. Fortunately for my friend, his wife was an RN, so she saw the train coming down the tracks way before things got derailed.
That said … the change in my friend personality and thinking scared the boogers outta me. I wonder sometimes if we’re not being too quick with (legally) administering some of these mind altering substances without having a complete understanding of what they can do to a person …

Jemal, if he is guilty of theaccusations against him - he should serve whatever punishment is given. Oh, and he should be judged in exactly the same manner as a John Doe too. No throne for actions like that./
That said, it speaks more about the speaker’s humanity than his if they can’t understand the circumstances that drive a human to an addiction like his. There’s little willfulness involved. Rather, constant unending pain with no recourse except meds.
Hopefully Rush will grow from this and have more compassion to those terminalcancer patients who a fighting to legalize marijuana. But either way, there is nothing compassionate nor humane about kicking someone when they are down - particularly one who is (a) not totally responsible forthe situation that put him there to start with and (b) is owning up to things.
This world - particularly this society - has enough divisiveness in it. Just like the ‘eye for an eye’ approach is never going to create a lasting peace in the Mid East, neither will comments like your’s help move everyone to a more moderate stance.

Damn, I don’t like Rush, I’m an atheist so I can’t pray for him, but that totally sucks. It also sucks that he rails against druggies, then gets caught up in it himself.
If I had that kind of back pain, I’d be sparkin’ a doobie for it before I ever took a pain killer. At least cannabis isn’t addictive, despite what the YOU WILL GO INSANE crowd tells you.

If its two things humans are good at, it’s being far to political and Hating the Other Guys at all costs.
God, we all suck.

Honestly, Rush’s railing against the drug smugglers and pushers is a far cry from prescription drug abuse. Have some heart.

I pray for Rush, too. I certainly don’t agree with him, but I know it is really easy to get addicted to painkillers. I guess that no matter how hard you try, it is impossible to be immune to such addiction.
Poor guy.
