In April 2001, our downstairs looked like this:

(By the time we moved in, in July 2001, they had added carpet where that non-hardwood-floor was, and screens on the outside deck visible through the door.)
One month ago, the same room looked like this:

For the last month, we’ve had those large plastic sheets up, where there used to be walls separating the living room from the deck. In that picture, you can still see the deck flooring. The outside of the deck has been walled up with real walls and windows. We spent most of the month waiting on various inspections and subcontractors.
Today, the plastic sheets finally came down, and the space that used to be the outdoor deck now looks like this:

We’ve been packing up most of the things that were in and around the entertainment unit, in anticipation of moving everything into the garage this weekend so they can rip up the carpet and put down hardwood floors everywhere, including the new area.

Now it’s all going to be one wide open living area:

For reference, that sofa (which we’re getting rid of) is 91 inches long. It looked fine when there were walls behind it, and even when there were plastic sheets behind it. Now it looks puny in the middle of a 500 square foot room.
On the plus side, we’ll have plenty of room for Wii Bowling.

I can’t help but feel as if you’ve mixed up the before and after pictures.
Could be, but Mark can pass the FizzBuzz test (http://tickletux.wordpress.com/2007/01/24/using-fizzbuzz-to-find-developers-who-grok-coding/) way smarter than you, Dan.
Are you in the picture with the two guys? Or are they someone else?

I assume FizzBuzz should output the numbers as it goes, if only because then its first instance of each word reads “fizz 4 buzz.” Go champagne!
Why you got rid of the deck? The old living room was to small for two kids?
No, the Daemon Hound made him do it.

What was the cost of pushing out the walls?
I neglected to mention that we’re building a new 16×20 deck just outside those new double doors.

I like your dog on the sofa :)

Your dog is really cool:) I have also that long sofa (I like to sleep there). “500 square foot room” it’s 3x bigger then my home…
btw. Mark when You finish The renovation please give us new photos after the renovation. Greetings
