You have got to be fucking kidding me.
content attribute? type="Photo Matt"? RFC 822-style dates‽
We waited two years for this?

And hey, when you have a category with an apostrophe in the title, it doesn’t get escaped, either, which breaks the feed. [Before Matt gets too upset with me, I've been on the road since I noticed the bug and haven't had time to file a report. I will do so.]
But on the plus side it did give you an excuse to use an interrobang.

Man, you’ve been grumpy lately. Seems a large number of your recent posts are all rants. When do we get some truly profound, ‘net shaking, humanity-at-large-improving blog posts? ESR wrote some great stuff (for example, the python article on linuxjournal) but eventually his popularity got to him and he started abusing the attention. Every little peeve became a major battle and soon, no one wanted to listen to his rants (auto-peotomy ring a bell?)
Don’t go down the dark path.
BTW, I know what its like to have a toddler and a home improvement project… seems “existence” is difficult and shaking the ‘net can be daunting. But still, cheer up. Soon she’ll be three, then you can actually start to use reason.
> Soon she’ll be three, then you can actually start to use reason.
But soon after that she’ll turn four, and start using reason against you.

Yup, the interrobang.

Considering that the Atom implementation has been written by several authors several times over and announced several times in several blogs, tested several times by several users and comfirmed by all of the above to work almost flawlessly, it’s quite amazing that the current WordPress implementation sucks so badly. What’s even worse is that we probably have to wait another 2 years for the bugs to be fixed, which means that meanwhile everyone will have to adjust to the bugs and fork their Atom implementations to work with the nasty crap WordPress produces. Shame!
Matt, I don’t think Mark is being grump. To wait so long for something so bogus would be infuriating for anyone. Either way, I only commented because I wanted to mention that the comment spam on this entry is the most bizarre I have seen yet. “Women’s track & field throw teams” say what?
Matt:

You must be new here.Mark: rock on. “Cranky” is what you do better than everyone else.
PS.: I’ve been bitten by this more than once: the comment form strips paragraph tags, but does not replace them with newlines.
It seems that the comments feed was not taken from that 2-year-old bug, but was coded separately and apparently never tested. At least some of the problems have been fixed in trunk:
http://trac.wordpress.org/changeset/5483
If we’re extra lucky, someone might think to use the feed validator to test it this time. (Oh wait, I forgot who we’re dealing with.)

I see you’ve been going through correcting encoding problems in your comments.
I will note, however, that the author’s name in this comment is spooged, when it appears in your feed.
WordPress Changeset 5617 and WordPress Changeset 5619 should fix the rest of the problems.
Also got those fixes in the 2.2 branch, so 2.2.1 will validate.
