  1. You may not have seen the ten word review which is slightly less scathing, reviewing things in a generous ten words. http://thetenwordreview.com/

  2. Wow, how boring. You have successfully manages to make some quite interesting stories really boring, how clever of you. Here is a six word respone to your site:

“Don’t waste your time, boring, disingenious”

  3. You know that ultraorthodox flavor is still going to be built with proprietary tools which Canonical has no serious plans to make Free, right?

  4. I love wordpress. I thought I’d just throw that out there.

  5. “Yawn. Good for testing, I guess.”

It sure would be nice to see a Linux release of Safari…

  6. “disingenious”, what an excellent new word. Does just what it says on the tin!

    — Phil Wilson #

  7. I’m amused that the article you link to about Microsoft and APP actually contradicts your link title and your six snarky words of wisdom. :)

  8. Scott Johnson: fitting with original post, try Konqueror.

  9. I couldn’t agree with you more except the point on Steve Jobs. I though it was more like…

Steve to Developers: Let them eat cake!

  10. I hope to be disingenious someday.

  11. Not enough readers lately, Mark? I guess this new tactic of yours doesn’t work either. As an example, you’ve lost this one reader. Take care (and don’t forget your alka-seltzer).

  12. I have to agree with some of the commenters, Mark. I was really disappointed by this post. Not because I disagree with anything you said (I agree with all of that), nor because all of the responses are cranky (I read you for the cranky), but because it was lazy. (Silly season was somewhat lazy too, actually, but this one is an order of magnitude more so.)

It seems you have little sense of wonder left in the topics you opine about here. A pity, if maybe unsurprising. I’m certainly not unsubscribing, but I do hope you find in due course something to inspire you anew, or draw more of your ire than six words.

  13. Sometimes there is a fine line between “lazy” and “efficient”. I’ve always found Mark’s approach to his site to be the latter. Loved this post myself!

Poor Paris though. I mean. Who cares about Apple now?

  14. best post ever! make it a regular feature, ignore the haters. also, swearing is *always* funny.

    seriously though, stop torturing people.

  15. “That was painful to read.” — To you, maybe. To me, it wasn’t that painful.

Painful was the email I got from higher management the day before the announcement, thanking for my time and wishing me luck on my next ventures. No complains about the email itself, it was really nice and polite. I wish I got one of those every time a project ends or get cancelled.

But it was really painful to read.

  16. Regarding APP,

Unix - ops, what happened there.

C - clueless comes to mind

SQL - winner okay with that,

    Java - bloat beyond belief

RSS - oh my word now bloat on the Web too

Apart from one and one that is okay with many (apart from Oracle that gives so much bloat it is incredible), what on earth is Bray about. Shrinks are not expensive and other professions such as journalism always need fresh blood.
